Located on the historical Ibo Island, which is the former capital of Mozambique, you will find Ibo Island Lodge. At Ibo Island Mozambique travelers will find themselves nestled amongst history from an age and era gone by. Ibo Island Lodge is built from three colonial mansions that have been lovingly restored to their former glory. On the island itself is a population who still practice many of the customs that have been practiced on Ibo for hundreds of years, such as the silversmithing Ibo is famous for.
The three mansions are all airconditioned, and surrounded by beautiful gardens. The rooms are decorated in a style that takes you back to colonial Ibo Island Mozambique. The Lodge also has two swimming pools. Activities include a Historical Tour of Ibo Island, trips to a deserted sandbank, snorkeling and swimming, or a kayak trip into the mangroves. Ibo Island Lodge Cuisine is a combination of locally grown produce and freshly caught seafood prepared traditionally.
What is Special?
As Ibo Island does not have its own swimable beach, the Lodge offers a daily return trip to a pristine sand bank which is only visible at low tide. Enjoy a leisurely boat cruise (normally done by dhow) to the sand bank where you can sun bathe or snorkel whilst the crew sets up temporary camp under tents. Depending on the time of day you will either enjoy a harty breakfast or fresh lunch before returning back to the island.Note that Ibo Island is only accessible during high tide. This restricts water based activities. Power is currently supplied by generator which is switched off at night.
The island is reached by light aircraft island transfer flights that depart from Pemba Airport. These flights connect Ibo to other islands in the area such as Medjumbe Private Island.
